This petition looks to bring to light the behaviour of The Crown Estate (whose income goes to the taxpayer) in refusing designer store TK Maxx from opening a flagship store in the West End because it is not "high class" enough. The Estate would prefer the site, which has been empty for four years, to remain empty in the hope that a luxury brand such as Gucci or Prada will take it.

This is not a direct petition on behalf of TK Maxx, but is an argument against the reasons given for refusing a rental that would create 200 jobs, millions in tax revenue and hundreds of thousands of pounds of £ going straight to government projects.

As the Treasury takes a share of any rental received, surely, in a time dire public finances, the Estate must understand it can't afford to turn away revenue which could have been used for schools and hospitals.

We need to boost public spending.

We need to generate new jobs.

We need to suggest to the Crown Estate that they need to urgently re-evaluate their decision as the one they have made seems to come from a basic sybaritic attitude; a desire of only the finest things in life.

They represent the Crown, and therein the country, and need to be doing all they can to assist the economy.

It?s not as though TK Maxx are a £pound shop or 2nd hand dealership ? it fits into the area of Piccadilly Circus and, surely, can be seen by all as a good fit for the area.

TK Maxx is favoured by all walks of life, from Royal connections such as Kate Middleton, to ordinary taxpayers. Super luxury stores are only for the very rich. Empty stores do nobody any good. There are enough empty retail shops.

It?s been empty FOUR years... all the shops in the area are tourist targeted... come on now...

We ask you sign and show your support so we can make people aware that the Crown have badly misjudged the desire to not only see the space filled, but that 200 jobs, money into public schemes via the treasury, and boosted public spending in that area (benefit to ALL local retailers) are all NEEDED, and NOW.

As an aside, TK Maxx not ?high class?? What?s that about? They had Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney fashion labels in their stores last time I checked..
