Plastic bags kill at least 100,000 birds, whales, seals and turtles every year. Plastic bags litter our local environment, becoming caught in hedges, trees and around our beaches. The manufacture of plastic bags requires petroleum and often natural gas - which has taken years to form in the earth - the bags are used for seconds then discarded to pollute the environment for decades.
We would like to see the end of free plastic bags in our local shops and will support retailers who ban them.
