As the newly elected Chairman of the No.5 Board of Trustees (also newly elected by the members at the recent EGM) I am delighted to inform you that I am conducting a full end to end review of No.5 operations and a consultation with all No.5 volunteers and members. It is my clear aim to reinvigorate the charity and to ensure that we provide an excellent service in all respects. Kind regards, Matthew.

No5 Charity minutes state that trustees were very alarmed to find No5 had been ‘holding funds’ on behalf of Reading Borough Council for many years and subsequently made a substantial payment to another charity (the director of which is a Reading Borough Council employee). The failure of the Treasurer (a previous Reading Borough Council employee) to provide adequate reports raises critical questions as to the integrity, transparency and ability for No5 to ensure it is open to public scrutiny. Furthermore the Vice Chair (also a Reading Borough Council employee) failed to appropriately investigate allegations of criminal assault and the Chair signed an agreement devolving responsibility to Reading Borough Council without board authorisation. The Reading Tax Payer has funded this Charity for forty years and the continued lack of accountability does little to promote public confidence that this vital service to the young people of our community is well managed. No wonder this Charity is in crisis and in need of new governance!
