Saltburn Hill Climb, organised and run by Middlesbrough & District Motor Club, had to be stopped due to a breach of the Road Traffic Act 1972 which prohibited speed events on Closed Roads.
In 2005 Ashok Kumar MP raised the issue in the House of Commons and arranged for the club and parish council to meet with Stehen Ladyman MP, with a view to a change in the law.
Now in 2010, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Saltburn, Marske & New Marske Parish Council and Middlesbrough Motor Club want to have this event reinstated by whatever means are available.
Tom Blenkinsop, the new MP for Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland has agreed to follow up on the work that Ashok started in the House.

I believe the re-instatement of this event and other similar events on closed public roads to be good for local businesses and also good publicity for the local area. There is no reason why a properly organised and controlled event could not be run on closed roads. As an ex competitor for many years in both car and motorcycle sport including hillclimbs I really hope that this event can be run again soon.
