Persimmon PLC want to develop 168 dwellings on the gifted land that is now the Wootton Bassett Towns Cricket Field
This Land was gifted to the people of Wootton Bassett in 1930 by Major Buxton
Persimmon are also refusing to give any educational funding for the 168 properties – this should be around £1m but they are refusing.

This land must not be built upon. It is a sports facility for the people of Wootton Bassett and must remain so. We do not need extra housing and recreational land must be protected at all cost.

Gerard Buxton Sportsground should remain as land used for recreational purposes for everyone, but particularly the children of Wootton Bassett.
What's to save. The Rylands Way ground is now unable, due to lack of space and facilities, to fully support the sporting requirements of the members of the Sports Association. The logical move was to decamp to a purpose built facility on the edge of town. To do this required funds which have been realised by selling the present site to a developer.
Everybody wins. More sporting facilities become available for all, more houses become available using 'infill' land rather than green belt and, most importantly, Major Gerard Buxton's legacy lives on.
This is such a common thing nowdays, the council should remmeber that they are there to work for the people not big business. This land was left for the pople not the local goverment. Wake up and smell the change in the air/its called an election
