This clinic os clearly highly valued by families with children with Down’s Syndrome. It is really vital that disabled children have local access to high quality support, and the clinic should remain open to provide this.

Good Luck I have shared your important cause with my twitter followers

It is so important to get audiological equipment early in a child’s life to maximise their opportunities in education. Only a specialist service for Downs Syndrome Children can understand the challenges and help them to reach their potential.

It seems beyond belief that such a well regarded clinician and specialised service will no longer be available to those most in need. It is unacceptable and tantamount to marginalising children and their families with Downs.

  10. Frances Dubrau UNITED KINGDOM

Please endeavour to keep this clinic open.

  11. Kath Eccleston UNITED KINGDOM

It seems beyond belief that such a well regarded clinician and specialised service will no longer be available to those most in need. It is unacceptable and tantamount to marginalising the needs of children (and families) with Downs.

  12. Chris Barber UNITED KINGDOM

As a registered nurse for those with a learning disability, I whole heartedly support this petition.

  13. Geoff Tulley UNITED KINGDOM

As Chair of Wakefield and District Down’s Syndrome Support Group I am very aware of the high quality service provided by this Clinic. it provides fantastic, specialist, effective support. This service works and should be held up as good practice and continued accordingly.

  14. Austin Barlow

Please save this clearly vital resource.

  15. Rachel Whittaker UNITED KINGDOM

My niece has greatly benefitted from the expertise of Mr Sheehan and it would be very sad if this service was removed for vulnerable children in this area. Please keep this service open.

  16. anne power UNITED KINGDOM

My friends Kate and Ric had so much brilliant help from the clinic.

  17. Florence Gaunt

This facility should not close, children with Downs syndrome benefit so much from specialist input from professionals who understand their condition. This knowledge effectively enhances and improves children’s lives.

  18. Tara Guha

A dreadful decision to close such an important facility

Come on trust , get something right cause you failed with the new hospital , this clinic like Dr Patrick Sheehan is invaluable to you as a trust , it would be different if it was your kids that needed the resources , i hoped that when you closed pendlebury down for the new hospital you might of learned something but obviously as a trust you seem to still fail those that you have sworn an oath to help shame on you . Honestly you will never find such another dedicated Dr , Surgeon, Father , and Friend as you have in Dr Patrick Sheehan , and i will be very dubious to allow anyone else to oversee my daughters ENT needs . Wake up before you wreck yet another great resourse you idiots .

ENT care for children with DS in this country falls far behind many other countries, particularly Europe and the US. This clinic in the UK is a centre of excellence, a beacon of light in an otherwise drastically patchy and passive attitude towards treating hearing loss in children with DS. Without this clinic my 13 year old child would still be deaf. We live near Bristol but it wasn’t until I was told about Dr Sheehan that I managed to find out what I needed to know to tell our local ENT dept how to treat my son! At the end of the day we had to travel to Birmingham for treatment but as a result my son now has very good hearing. Without the treatment he would have undoubtably spent the rest of his life deaf and needed far more support than he now does. I am puzzled as to why the clinic is closing. With changes in NHS funding I would have thought that demand from other commissioners is likely to be huge (it is the only centre in the UK) and as such is potentially a significant income generator. It closure will be a huge loss; I urge you to reconsider.
