We the undersigned petition UEL to maintain the exterior element of the AVA workshops as a place available for students to work in. We enrolled on the course on the basis that it would be available to us. This external part of the workshop is critical to the success of our projects. Furthermore, the extra space, light and fresh air makes working at the workshop safer and healthier, especially when using tools and materials not suitable for use indoors.

The outside workshop is vital for the creativity and production across architecture and the visual arts. Without this space there is not enough room for the students needing to use the workshop, nor their work, which will stifle the education and opportunities for our students. In my decision to study here the outside workshop was one of the plus points of UEL for me and one of the fundamental reasons I am studying here. The road is not used and the workshop is busy enough without reducing the space. AVA is an active part in UEL and their facilities deserve preserving and with the right management should grow, despite the cuts. The courses themselves are taking on more students; so there is no reason to permanently close the outside access for workshops, it is irreplaceable. If there are complaints then give more discipline and guidelines to students using the space. This workshop allows people to think big and not get on top of each other, without it the workshops would be over-full and dangerous- the risk of injury would definitely increase.

Not allowing this space to be used is health and safety madness!
