Since the formation of Stage One Theatre Company almost 20 years ago, the group have staged over 50 full-scale musical productions, raising a great deal of money for various local and national charities with the involvement of talented young performers from in and around the London Borough of Havering. For over a decade, Stage One Theatre Company have been rehearsing in the annexe at Century Youth House, Romford which until recently has been a youth and community centre.

As a result of the charity work that we do and the fact that our company has always been considered to be a community youth group, we were offered the support of the London Borough of Havering, more specifically the Havering Youth Services, who have subsidised our room rent and allowed us to rehearse at Century Youth House.

Early last year, the government demanded that every local education authority should have, a P.R.U. (or 'Pupil Referral Unit') for young people who have proved to be so difficult and so much trouble to the community that no regular school in the area would allow them to study there. (The actual definition of a P.R.U. is a "centre for children who are not able to attend a mainstream or special school"). Very often such pupils are described as displaying EBD (Emotional and/or Behavioural Difficulties) It was decided that they needed a full-time
