The UK Boarder Agency requires you be 21 or older to apply for a marriage visa. This was applied to stop forced marriages. This age used to be 18 and has recently be reduced back to 18 for anyone working in HM armed forces. However this doesnt apply for any one else. The age restriction is still 21. There are many families out there who are younger then 21 but are genuine and can not apply to live in the same country. However in the eyes of the law in The United Kingdon, if you are 18 you are legally an adult. You can also legally vote and do numerous other stuff. Such as make a will, change your name, make a bet etc etc. But you cant apply to have your spouse live in the same country as you. Does this make sence to you? Many families are having to live apart because of this law, just because they are 18 or 19!
For instance, i am a British Citizen and am happily married to an American Citizen. We have a son together who was born in UK but is lucky enough to have both UK and USA citizenship. However we cant live in England together as a family because i am 19 and not 'LEGALLY' able to apply for my husband, the father of my child, to live with us. My aim is to make this petition in the event enough people sign it, to make this issue known. I want to take it to as many people as i can to get it seen by the people needed. Hoping to get the law changed back to 18, allowing families to live together eventhough they are young. Please sign this petition to keep young families together!
