Bury Council wants to cut £32m from its 2012/13 budget.
The brunt of these cuts will fall on the town’s library services.

The local authority will start consulting with the public about where and how the cuts will fall, but – with such drastic reductions – it is expected that some libraries will have to close.
Whitefield Library is an important resource – providing services to young and old – and is meeting point for the whole community.
As well as running a twice-weekly homework club for school children and a magical story-time for under-fives, the library also hosts a range of adult education classes, helping older visitors or those confused by IT to get started on the Internet and with email.
See this story in the Manchester Evening News (November 4, 2011) for further information about the proposals.
Details of the exact proposals are still to be announced.
But if you feel that this important resource should be protected, ACT NOW!
