we want further discussion and a chance to have some very worrying questions answered, three sites are too many with one headteacher and an infant school where one class will be isolated.

i am fiercly opposed to this merger of all 3 schools, obviously a cost cutting exercise to the detriment of childrens education, including my granddaughter

Shortwood School is, in my view, too far away to really be made part of a new primary school and I believe it also needs a lot of money to be spent on it to ensure it provides the same equipment and facilities as the other schools. Considering it was due to be closed and the proposed amalgamation was only suggested following public outcry I would be very concerned if funds were spent only for the site to close in the relatively near future when it becomes apparent that a 3 site primary school spread over a far too wide area with only one headteacher is unworkable and detrimental to pupils, staff and the community as a whole. I would support further consultation on a new school based on the knowle Park and Kingscroft sites but I am wholly opposed to the 3 site amalgamation for the reasons outlined above.

This is clearly a knee jerk reaction to avoid closing Shortwood – but is of no benefit to students at Knowle Park or Kingscroft. How is having a single school with sites over a mile apart of benefit to parents, teachers or students of the school? If this does go ahead, all that will happen is the shortwood site would be closed within a year anyway, with nothing anyone could do about it.\r\n\r\nI can see arguments for Knowle Park and Kingscroft merging, but don't use them as a get out of jail free card for Shortwood's problems.

If the amalgamation is happening as we need a successful through-primary in the area – fine. However, it appears to be simply a measure to save Shortwood. The repercussions of a 3 site primary just would not work and there are no successful examples of this. Resources and support would be better used in bringing up the standards of Kingscroft so that we have a successful, high achieving junior school to complement Knowlepark Infant School. This is a more pressing requirement.

I have 2 young Grandaughters and would not like the thought of them going to a 3 site primary school run by only 1 head teacher.
