The Portman Group is increasingly turning its eyes on traditional British beer names and is attempting to stamp out the individuality that makes our nation's beers so special.

Recent targets have included Brew Dog and the Orkney Brewery to name but two, and I feel that they are going to continue to target our traditional brewing industry.

The watchdog is over-reacting to completely irrelevant labelling issues that will do nothing to combat the underlying issues that surround drinking in this country BUT what it could do is seriously damage the already under-pressure artisan brewing industry.

It's my assertion that:
Fun, humourous and even bawdy beer names are part of our national heritage and should left alone.
Ale drinkers, by and large, are not the cause of trouble on the streets of our towns and cities and names like Skullsplitter and statements like 'twisted merciless stout' are not likely to see blood spilt all over Britain's streets.
Strong ales are too prohibitively expensive to make them the binge-drinker's choice of tipple.
Research has proved that the average ale drinker is smart and, as such, doesn't need this kind of 'protection' and can make their own intelligent choices.

Please sign this petition as soon as possible so that we can try and prevent the Portman Group from gaining any more ground in its bizarre crusade to stamp out individualism and excitement in our national brewing industry.
