North Yorkshire County Council need to make savings on their budget. They have made a number of proposals one of which involves withdrawing funding for Starbeck library. The County Council is running a consultation to which you can respond using the link above. When funding is withdrawn the Council want local people to take over the running of the library but many people fear that this will just lead to closure.

Local MP, Andrew Jones is campaigning for the County Council to continue funding Starbeck library to ensure that it stays open for business. If you support the campaign to keep Starbeck library open please sign the petition.

My daughter loves going to the library it’s an essential part of children’s education,,,to travel on public transport every week to Harrogate which will be overloaded with extra people is not what I would find enjoyable

  2. Josephine Ross UNITED KINGDOM

Books are not only educational but enjoyable for the young and old It not always easy or convenient to travel to Harrogate to the library ,

  3. Joy Richards UNITED KINGDOM

It is a community hub in a community with a high proportion of vulnerable groups.

  4. David Rees UNITED KINGDOM

The level of provision of public services is a mark of the level of civilisation.
Public libraries are just such service and are a valuable resource to the community.
The current proposals to cut back such provision and the exhortation to “volunteers” to step in to continue the service is disingenuous at best and contrasts with the extraordinary level of incompetence and profligacy when one considers the recent examples in the highways areas around Harrogate and the unforgivable decision to proceed with the Allerton Park incinerator plan.
