TESCO's cleaning contractor TC Contractors has, under the bogus guise of 'redundancies' imposed savage cuts in the terms and conditions of its cleaners. It has in effect torn up these workers contracts and is pressuring them to sign blank-cheque contracts. Contrary to TC's redundancy claims, not only has the workload not changed but new tasks have been added. Cleaners find the workload impossible and the "new practices" a threat to both food hygiene and health and safety.In Derry, cleaners at 3 stores have signalled their oppostion to these cuts and have, through their union Unite, engaged management in a grievance procedure to be heard on 6 and 7 October. We are calling for community-wide support to make TESCO reverse these savage cuts and the insane practices they have resulted in.
