Saltburn Hill Climb, organised and run by Middlesbrough & District Motor Club, had to be stopped due to a breach of the Road Traffic Act 1972 which prohibited speed events on Closed Roads.

In 2005 Ashok Kumar MP raised the issue in the House of Commons and arranged for the club and parish council to meet with Stehen Ladyman MP, with a view to a change in the law.

Now in 2010, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Saltburn, Marske & New Marske Parish Council and Middlesbrough Motor Club want to have this event reinstated by whatever means are available.

Tom Blenkinsop, the new MP for Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland has agreed to follow up on the work that Ashok started in the House.
