i don’t want to have to pay for sky to watch formula 1

  3. James Burrows UNITED KINGDOM

Completely Agree that this deal is both Morally and more importantly legislatively illegal.

  4. Michael WInn UNITED KINGDOM

I am a Sky customer but do not subscribe to sports. The subscription cost is such that the non free to air races will be very expensive! All this when BE pledged that the TV deal would not be made with a non free to air broadcaster.

  5. Lynnette Maxim UNITED KINGDOM

This was the only sport terrestrial TV viewers could follow for the whole season and not miss anything. The BBCs policy of aquiring the big events such as Wimbledon is all very well but these are one off events in the year. It seems that unless we get Sky then it’s very difficult to follow the sports we love nowadays.

  6. Mike Balmer UNITED KINGDOM

I never miss a GP, and often rise at unearthly times to see both qualifying and the races live. Losing half the season to Sky is a disaster for those of us who aren’t Sky subscribers. The F1 season should be akin to other sporting events where the BBC has to show them on terrestrial TV.

  7. Elizabeth Anderson UNITED KINGDOM

How does this deal fit with the concorde agreement, which states that F1 coverage is to be free to air in protected countries (GB included)? I can’t afford Sky, I don’t want it and I certainly don’t intend to give any money to it’s corrupt owner. No to Sky.

  8. Paul Creed UNITED KINGDOM

Do not allow F1 coverage to go to Sky.

  9. David Legg UNITED KINGDOM

I am furious that the BBC, eager to reduce the expense of covering Formula 1 Grand Prix for the next 2 years, has entered into a deal handing broadcast rights to another company for a total of 7 years without any competitive process.

I am extremely concerned about the length of this deal, which has been made on the strength of a contract that the BBC was only able to sign with Formula One Management because the BBC could provide live “free to air” coverage of Grand Prix seasons in their entirety. The BBC has abused its position of dominance to create a situation whereby no Grand Prix season will be available live “free to air” in its entirety for 7 years, extending the contract by 5 years to improve the deal for Sky and prevent competition for broadcast rights that the BBC was no longer interested in holding.

Please unwind this deal and prevent this shocking abuse of position, which is contrary to the express wishes of Formula One Management (that Formula One should be broadcast “free to air”), the interests of Formula One fans (who, in having now to pay for a Sky subscription to watch races live, have had a £600 per annum surcharge placed upon them by the BBC), and the expectation of fair competition for broadcast rights.

  10. Andrew Butcher UNITED KINGDOM

so we keep wimbledon for 2 weeks a year, cricket that’s dieing on its feet and give up a growing worldwide sport BUT the worst aspect is the apparent dirty dealing to make sure C4 or any other terrestrial broadcaster can’t have it. BBC as a public service broadcaster – joke. Take away the licence fee!!

  11. Daniel Tyler UNITED KINGDOM

Do not let the corrupt owners of BSkyB get the rights. Why would we want to only watch half a season ?

  12. Eliott Enos UNITED KINGDOM

Sky has too much control over sport coverage today

  13. T. Elliott

It is clearly stated in the Concord Agreement that TV access must be FTA (Free to Air). Sky is not FTA.

  14. paul crowe UNITED KINGDOM

It is clearly stated in the Concord Agreement that TV access must be FTA (Free to Air). Sky is not FTA.

  15. Dennis Kerr UNITED KINGDOM

As a pensioner I can now only see 50% of the races live

  16. David Castle UNITED KINGDOM

I for once agree with BE – BBC have acted unfairly with my money

  17. David Lewis UNITED KINGDOM

The BBC have entered into a deal with Sky, which does not allow full FTA access to live F1 and not allowed other terrestrial channels to bid for the complete package. They should not have entered into a deal that they were not prepared or financially capable of honouring. This is a move off FTA by the back door.

  18. Richard Patterson UNITED KINGDOM

I wholehartedly agree with this petition. The BBC have acted unfairly towards it’s licence fee payers.

  19. Ian Townsend UNITED KINGDOM

The BBC have not acted in the best interests of a) Legislation and Regulations, b) The license fee payers, and c) The Concorde Agreement. It doesn’t matter that “high level sources” have found that the deal between the BBC and Sky satisfies the concorde agreement: Plainly – Without Sky + Sky Sport, I cannot watch all F1 action next year, live, as it happens. IT IS NOT FREE TO AIR.

  20. Robert Parfitt UNITED KINGDOM

This is the BBC instigating a deal that stops the other Free to Air TV Companies from taking over Formula 1 broadcasting. Even though I prefer the BBC coverage if they can’t afford it then they should have allowed ITV or Channel 4 to take over thereby keeping it Free to Air.
